LIFE IS A JOURNEY

"The journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one's feet." --Lao Tzu
"We are seasoned travelers of the labryinth.  Losing our way and finding
our way.  Traveling on the beaten path and the road less traveled.
Eventually finding our way home to the place of spiritual rest and fulfillment.'

JOURNEY TO WHOLENESS- Reflection For Today

I AM WHOLE

"He who has a why to love for can bear with almost any how"-Friedrich Nietzche

The mystical wisdom embedded in the lotus flower, as it emerges from the murky waters, is associated with mental purity, faithfulness, spiritual awakiening and rebirth. In the advent of suicide and the opiod crisis, people are suffering in quiet desperation. Perhaps it is not socially acceptable to admit and share our humanness. We must understand that pain and suffering is a part of the human condition, and no one is exempt from the universal experiences of life. We often look outside of ourselves for the definition of who we are and when the job, health, beauty friends, status, financial holdings, etc., dissipate or diminish our self-image may be severely impacted. We may become fragmented as a result of life experiences and haunted by the shadow side of ourselves filled with self-critism, pride, judgement and illusions of power. The search for wholeness is from within where we find inner fulfilment that sustains us through life changing events and hard times. One of my favorite books, "Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl detailed his day by day survival in a concentration camp and revealed how our fundmental attitude toward life can help us endure the most baffling situations.

TODAY: Find meaning in your life in each moment and be grateful

Be compassionate and kind to yourself

Be aware and STOP self-condeming thoughts

Seek help from a friend or professional if you feel out of control

JOURNEY TO WHOLENESS-Reflection For Today

I AM FULFILLED

"Just as the light brightens darkness, discovering inner fulfillment can eliminate any disorder or discomfort.  This is truly the key to creating balance and harmony in everything you do"-Deepak Chopra

Life presents many opportunities for conscious awakening and transformation.  There are many accounts of people who transformed their lives in the midst of loss, change, and catastrophic events.  However, we do not have to wait until we encounte such life-changing events before we view life from a different perspective.  The reality is that death is certainly our constant companion, and this awareness is a reminder to make the choice to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

TODAY: Live each moment with intention.  Live each moment with a sense of satisfaction-yes-even through hardships- for the the memory of a loved one and the gift of life, for the life-changing  diagnosis that helped you appreciate each moment of life, for your that have taken you thus far on your journey, for the object that gave you pleasure that may no longer be in your possession, for the  many the teachers who taught us valuable lessons.
I am fulliflled and satisfied in the moment.  Reflect and capture the true essence of each moment and each experience.  Set your intention to think of the goodness and climb even higher.

JOURNEY TO WHOLENESS-Reflection For Today

I AM PRESENT

Being present is treasuring each moment and fully engaging in life. A quote from Henry David Thoreau captures the essence of being present, "You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment", One day while out in nature, my eyes captured the sight of a large beautiful yellow butterfly. Being fully present, my eyes followed the butteryfly against the backdrop of a lovely sunshiny day, white clouds in the sky, and an assortment of trees and greenery. I felt the brush of the whisper of the wind against my face, the smell of the green grass, and listened to the sounds of nature. My attention was focused on the free spirit of this butterfuly as it traveled from tree to tree, up in the sky, and finally disappearing in sight. It was quite an enjoyable and peaceful gift in the present moment.

TODAY: Stay in the rapture of each ordinary moment. It is truly a gift. Pay attention to the sensations of scent, sight, hearing, touch and taste. How does this make you feel?

JOURNEY TO WHOLENESS-Reflection For Today

I AM GENEROUS

The ability to shape the course of one's life can only be exercised in the present, not the past or the future (K. Sri Dhammananda). To be present requires focused attention. The activity at this moment must be the only thing that matters. We are alert, aware, and awake to the lessons to learn and open to what the universe has to offer. It is here that the wisdom of the heart speaks. Being attention is a gift of spiritual generosity. As we give to others, we give to ourself. We become more compassionate and present in our daily life.

TODAY: Be present and treasure each moment. Give yourself the gift of attention and fully engage in your activities and interaction with others. How does this make you feel?

I AM HUMBLE

You will find, as you look back upon your life, that the moments when you rally lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love-Henry Drummond

Humility is one of the nine ingredients in Drummond's  Spectrum of Love."Love vaunteth not itself, it is not puffed up" These ingredients make up the supreme gift-the stature of the perfect man.  C.S.Lewis quotes, "True humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less.  This puts it in a perspecctive which all can relate.  The ego builds  up our pride and  faulty perceptions of self-worth. We may sometimes attempt to gain at the expense of others seeking recognition.

TODAY:  Be aware of your thoughts, feelings and actions Check your ego when it is spiraling out of control.  Grace is available to each of us and we do not have to prove ourselves to be worthy based upon the expectations of others.

                                    I AM KIND
Kindness in words creates confidence.  Kindness in thinking crates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love -Lao Tzu

Acts of kindness radiate from the heart and connects our souls.  Kindness opens our heart making us free from judgment and restrictions. It takes us outside of ourselves and our structured rituals of daily life.  It can be small acts such as a simple smile that may brighen another person's day.  It may be giving a simple compliment to someone who may feel unworthy.  It may be doing a deed whether small or large without being known.  It is simply giving of ourselves that serves as a ripple effect to change the world.

One day while not being present and in  a frantic rush, I lost my driver's license.  My day had  already been pre planned but that  incident changed my course.  In fear, I ruminated about how my identify could be compromised.  Tracking  my steps over and over, it proved futile.  I resolved that I would have to spend hours at to get a replacment resulting in extra time and cost.  Almost two week later, I received mail from a person who I did not know and the letter had somethng in it. It eventually found me after a move.  With curiosity, I opened the letter with a  kind note and my driver's license from a person who lived in another area.  She took the time to write a note and mail the letter.  This was a generous  act of kindness.  I am grateful to Caitlin for this generous act of kindness and wrote a thank you note wishing favor for such compassion.

TODAY:Kindess is one of the ingredients in Henry Drummond's Spectrum of Love.  Give the gift of kindness to yourself and extend this to others. Show an act without being acknowledged or recognized.  How did this make you feel?

JOURNEY TO WHOLENESS: Reflection For Today
       I AM LOVE

Love is a powerful force and an essential part of the human experiene.  It is a universal language that supersedes differences.  Erich Fromm contends that love is an art just as living is an artThe practice of any art has certain general requirements-discipline, concentration, patience, and supreme concern.  Buscaglia says, "When you love yourself, you will love othersAnd to the depth and extent to which you can love yourself, only to that depth, and extent will you be able to love others."  In the midst of love, everything is transformed. Drumond's ingredients in the spectrum of love includes patience, kindness, generosity, humility, courtesy, unselfishness, good temper, guilessness and sincerity.

TODAY: Treat yourself with love.  Select one of Drummon's ingredients in the spectrum of love.  Define it in detail.  During the course of the day, give yourself this gift as you abide in self-love.  Extend this to others. How do you treat yourself and how does it make you feel?  Does it make a difference in your interaction with others?
